The Colexio Oficial de Arquitectos de Galicia’s delegations in Vigo, Pontevedra and Ourense said 12 projects won the 2025 Gran de Area architecture awards, with the results published by May 22. The awards cover works across the three demarcations and recognize architects, developers, builders and other participants involved in completed projects, according to the college. This year’s winners span heritage restoration, housing rehabilitation, public space, health facilities, rural architecture and landscape-linked interventions. The jury said it selected 12 projects from 57 admitted entries after 60 proposals were submitted and three were excluded for not meeting the rules. ### Which projects were singled out across the three provinces? Faro de Vigo’s published gallery of winners listed 12 projects: Alpendre reitoral Santiago de Rábeda in A Touza; the Centro integral de salud de la comarca Deza-Lalín; Conservación do Museo Massó in Bueu; “El bosque animado” event pavilion at Pazo da Toxeiriña; public temporary lodging in Muimenta; the Mirador de A Peixeira and climb to Campo de San Roque in Portonovo; new construction and rehabilitation of a building for housing, commercial units and garages on Marqués de Valladares in Vigo; the ordering of the monastic precinct and coastal meeting point at the Real Monasterio de Oia; restoration of the west façade of Ourense Cathedral; rehabilitation and extension of a housing building on Progreso street in Ourense; and restoration of architect Xosé Bar Boo’s private home in Vigo. (portal.coag.es) Tectónica’s summary of the jury ruling said the 12 selected works were distributed evenly, with four projects in each of the three demarcations. The publication said the entries covered residential, commercial, rehabilitation, industrial, urban, landscape and interior design work. ### How many projects competed, and who chose the winners? (farodevigo.es) The COAG ruling said 60 proposals were submitted to the 2025 edition and 57 were admitted after three were excluded for not complying with the competition rules. The jury met in Vigo at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2025, to review the entries and reach a final consensus. The jury was made up of Emma Noriega García, president of the COAG delegation in Ourense; Anselmo Villanueva Peón, president of the Pontevedra delegation; Sonia Alvarado Peitieiros, treasurer of the Vigo delegation acting in place of delegation president Manuel Martínez Carazo; Sandra González Rodríguez, Carolina Mateos Escudero and Rosa Mouriño Pérez, chosen by the three delegations; Jorge Enríquez Méndez, selected from prior winners; and María García Couto as secretary without a vote, the COAG ruling said. The COAG ruling said the admitted projects showed “notable diversity” in scale and type, including residential, public-facility and public-space projects, as well as restoration, rehabilitation and interior design interventions. The college said the awards are meant to recognize the work of architects, developers, quantity surveyors, builders and other collaborators involved in quality projects in Vigo, Ourense and Pontevedra. (portal.coag.es) Tectónica said the jury highlighted both contemporary design responses and the reuse of local materials in some winning projects. In its summary of the Rábeda project, for example, the publication said the jury pointed to the reinterpretation of vernacular architecture and the use of Galician pine. In its summary of the temporary lodging project in Carballeda de Avia, it said the jury valued the recovery of a ruined building for public use. (portal.coag.es) ### Why did the Lalín health center draw separate attention? The Centro Integral de Salud de Lalín was one of the 12 winners and was highlighted separately by Faro de Vigo in a photo feature published on May 22. The paper said the project was among the works distinguished by the three COAG delegations in the 2025 awards. (tectonica.archi) Faro de Vigo’s broader coverage said the winners ranged from patrimonial recovery and residential rehabilitation to public space and health equipment. That placed the Lalín project alongside museum conservation, cathedral restoration and housing interventions in Vigo and Ourense. ### When and where were the prizes due to be handed over? (farodevigo.es) Faro de Vigo said the awards gala was scheduled for Saturday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at the new Auditorio de Marín. The ceremony followed the publication of the winners by the COAG delegations and local media on May 22. The COAG awards page remains the primary public record of the jury ruling and the admitted-entry count, while Faro de Vigo’s coverage provides the published list of winning works and the ceremony details.
