Ferrari Debuts ₹10 Crore Testarossa
Ferrari will debut its new 849 Testarossa in India on March 14, priced at Rs 10.37 crore before options. This SF90 Stradale replacement is expected to make waves in the Indian supercar market with its next-generation hybrid powertrain and track-focused engineering.
The Testarossa name carries significant weight, reviving a moniker made famous by the iconic 1980s supercar. The original, produced from 1984 to 1991, was a cultural touchstone known for its dramatic side strakes and a powerful 4.9-liter flat-12 engine. This new model steps in to replace the SF90 Stradale, a landmark vehicle for the brand. Introduced in 2019, the SF90 was Ferrari's first series-production plug-in hybrid, combining a twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors to produce a staggering 986 horsepower. Ferrari's hybrid technology, honed in Formula 1, focuses on performance enhancement. The electric motors provide instant torque for blistering acceleration, supplementing the gasoline engine to create a more responsive and powerful driving experience. The launch comes as India's supercar market is experiencing unprecedented growth. Sales more than doubled to 1,000 units in 2023, with experts projecting that figure to climb as high as 1,300 in 2024. This surge in demand is fueled by a growing number of young, ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Competitors like Lamborghini have already sold their entire allocation for India, with new orders facing waits until 2026 or later. The debut of a new hybrid flagship signals Ferrari's ongoing shift toward electrification. The company is leveraging hybrid systems across its lineup and has confirmed its first fully electric vehicle is expected to be announced in 2025.
