Tesla brings 16 Megapacks

Tesla deployed 16 Megapack fast‑charging units at the Coachella site in Indio, California for festival weekends April 10–12 and April 17–19 to ease EV travel for attendees. (x.com)

Tesla brought 16 Megapack-based fast chargers to the Coachella grounds in Indio for the festival’s two 2026 weekends, adding temporary charging capacity where traffic peaks. (coachella.com) (x.com) Coachella is running April 10–12 and April 17–19 at the Empire Polo Club, and the festival’s own travel page warns that parking is capacity-limited and traffic conditions can change in real time. (coachella.com 1) (coachella.com 2) Tesla’s existing Indio Supercharger site lists 46 fast-charging stalls at Indio Towne Center, including 36 stalls rated up to 250 kilowatts and 8 rated up to 150 kilowatts. A temporary bank of 16 more chargers near the venue would materially expand local capacity during the festival rush. (tesla.com) A Megapack is Tesla’s large stationary battery, and the company has been mounting that battery and Supercharger posts on trailers to create pop-up charging sites. Tesla used the same setup on holiday travel routes in California, Nevada and Ohio in December 2024. (electrek.co) (ev.com) Tesla charging executive Max de Zegher said those trailer units carry 3 megawatt-hours of storage, support eight 250-kilowatt posts, and can charge about 75 cars before being refilled. He said they are meant for “temporary congestion bottlenecks and disruptions” and can be recharged overnight from nearby Supercharger equipment. (electrek.co) Tesla has tested the idea at Coachella before. In April 2023, the company deployed mobile Supercharger trailers at the festival, using a similar combination of trailer-mounted chargers and Megapack storage. (torquenews.com) The company is scaling this strategy as its charging footprint grows. Tesla’s Supercharger page said last week that the network had topped 75,000 chargers worldwide. (tesla.com) For Coachella drivers, the setup is straightforward: bring more charging to the place where tens of thousands of people arrive on the same desert roads over the same six festival days.
