Pleasanton’s Community of Character Collaborative has named Greg Thome, JoAnn Weser, Bill Rudolph and the Alan Hu Foundation as its 2026 Juanita Haugen Award recipients. (business.pleasanton.org) The awards luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Pleasanton Veterans Building, and tickets are listed at $45. (business.pleasanton.org) (patch.com) The same event will also recognize 14 Pleasanton Unified School District seniors receiving Juanita Haugen Memorial Scholarships. (business.pleasanton.org) (pleasantonusd.net) The Juanita Haugen awards were established in 2008 to honor Pleasanton residents, volunteers and nonprofit groups whose service reflects six traits: responsibility, compassion, self-discipline, honesty, respect and integrity. (business.pleasanton.org 1) (business.pleasanton.org 2) Juanita Haugen, for whom the awards are named, was a co-founder of Pleasanton’s Community of Character program, a longtime volunteer and the longest-serving member of the Pleasanton school board. She died in 2007. (business.pleasanton.org) (hacienda.org) Greg Thome’s citation centers on decades of youth service: more than 40 years with Catholic Youth Organization programs, nearly 20 years coordinating referees for the Special Olympics basketball tournament, and work with Amador Valley Athletic Boosters and Pleasanton Unified committees. (business.pleasanton.org) Bill Rudolph was described by organizers as a Pleasanton resident of more than 50 years whose volunteer work has focused on education, mentorship and local history. (business.pleasanton.org) (patch.com) The Alan Hu Foundation, another 2026 honoree, says it was launched after Alan Hu’s death in 2018 and works on mental health awareness, stigma reduction and research support. (alanhufoundation.org) The foundation was also recognized separately in 2025 as California Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 16, and says it has awarded scholarships to 57 seniors in Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore. (alanhufoundation.org) Pleasanton’s Community of Character program still shows up in civic life years after Haugen’s death, from school instruction to banners on public buildings and a plaque in the City Council chamber. The May 13 luncheon is the yearly public ritual that ties those values to specific people. (business.pleasanton.org) (hacienda.org)
