Pete Crow-Armstrong Makes Team USA
Pete Crow-Armstrong and Clay Holmes have been selected to represent Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Their inclusion brings a mix of youth and experience to the national squad as the team prepares for international competition.
Pete Crow-Armstrong's selection comes after a breakout 2025 season where he became the second player in Cubs history to join the 30-30 club. The 23-year-old outfielder finished the year with 31 home runs and 35 stolen bases, earning his first All-Star selection and a Gold Glove Award. Despite his power and speed, Crow-Armstrong's plate discipline was a point of concern, posting a low 4.7% walk rate. He ended the 2025 regular season with a .247 batting average, which dipped to .185 during the postseason. Clay Holmes brings a veteran presence to the pitching staff after transitioning from a closer role to a starter for the New York Mets in 2025. In his first full season as a starter, he posted a 12-8 record with a 3.53 ERA over 165.2 innings. The right-hander led the Mets with 31 starts and was effective at limiting damage, holding opponents to a .185 batting average with runners in scoring position. This will be his first time representing Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. The sixth iteration of the World Baseball Classic is scheduled to take place from March 5-17, 2026. The tournament's pool play will be held in four cities: Miami, Houston, San Juan, and Tokyo. Team USA will be looking to defend its title, with the tournament's semifinals and championship game set to be played in Miami.
