CLAY LA returns to Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles this weekend, with three days of ceramic sales, activities and fundraising from April 24 to 26. (craftcontemporary.org) The event opens with a Preview Night on Friday, April 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with tickets priced at $20 for the public and $15 for museum members. Saturday market hours run 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with $9 museum admission, and Sunday runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a pay-what-you-wish basis. (craftcontemporary.org) Craft Contemporary and PBS SoCal describe this as the ninth edition of the museum’s ceramic marketplace and fundraiser. The museum says the event brings together emerging and established ceramic artists from across Los Angeles. (craftcontemporary.org; pbssocal.org) The market is part sales floor and part public program. Organizers say the weekend includes artist booths, music, hands-on clay activities, food and drink vendors, and direct conversations with makers in the museum courtyard. (pbssocal.org; craftcontemporary.org) That format puts CLAY LA inside a broader museum push around ceramics. Craft Contemporary says the event connects to its year-round ceramics programming, workshops, sales and exhibitions, including its upcoming fourth clay biennial, “tierra.” (craftcontemporary.org) The artist list spans more than 30 names, including Angel Prudencio, Chunmei Ceramics, FHAR Studio, Greg Lowe Arts, People’s Pottery Project, Sergio Noe, Tierra del Sol and Yunting Ceramics. PBS SoCal says the market will include functional tableware, sculptural forms and experimental one-of-a-kind pieces. (craftcontemporary.org; pbssocal.org) Craft Contemporary has also built a daily opportunity drawing into the fundraiser. Preview Night ticket holders get one entry with admission, additional entries cost $5 in person, and the museum says winners will be contacted on April 29 for in-person pickup. (craftcontemporary.org) The museum is at 5814 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles and is normally open Wednesday through Sunday. For this weekend, the first look comes Friday night, then the broader public market follows on Saturday and Sunday. (craftcontemporary.org; craftcontemporary.org)
