CicLAvia: Open Streets in South L.A.
- Open-streets, car-free route for biking, walking, and community activities. - Sunday, April 26 — all-day city route with pop-up vendors and music. - Route start points, map and details at welikela.com
CicLAvia will close three miles of West Los Angeles streets to cars on Sunday, April 26, and reopen them to people from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (ciclavia.org) The route links Santa Monica Boulevard and Westwood Boulevard, and organizers say people can enter anywhere along the corridor instead of starting at a single line. CicLAvia calls the event free and open to all ages and abilities. (ciclavia.org) Discover Los Angeles says this is CicLAvia’s 65th car-free open-streets event and its first event of 2026. The nonprofit says it has been opening streets across Los Angeles County since 2010. (discoverlosangeles.com) Two activity hubs will anchor the route: one on Santa Monica Boulevard west of Centinela Avenue, and one on Westwood Boulevard south of Le Conte Avenue. Discover Los Angeles says both hubs will have restrooms, water refill stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, seating and first aid. (discoverlosangeles.com) A pit stop near Purdue Avenue on Santa Monica Boulevard will add another place for water, restrooms and basic bike repair. Free pedicab rides will also be available from each hub’s information booth, according to the event listing. (discoverlosangeles.com) CicLAvia says the event is not a race, and traffic on the route moves in two directions like a regular street. The group allows people-powered vehicles, plus mobility devices for people with disabilities, and says some electric bikes are allowed under specific conditions. (ciclavia.org) The Los Angeles Department of Transportation promoted the event last week as the city’s first open-streets day of 2026. In the same update, the agency highlighted South Los Angeles mobility programs including South Central Power Up, an e-bike lending program launched in 2024, and a Bike Wallet pilot offering up to $1,800 toward a bike, e-bike or scooter for current participants. (ladot.lacity.gov) We Like L.A. included CicLAvia in its April 24-26 weekend guide, alongside Fiesta Broadway, the City of STEM Festival and the Crenshaw Night Market. For Sunday, the clearest plan is simple: pick an entry point, leave the car behind and use the route map before you go. (welikela.com)
