Yoga gets playful (and wild)

Yoga is leaning into humor and novelty — Portland rolled out 'snake yoga' (pythons in class) in a March 15 feature, and a viral March 15 YouTube called 'We Ruined An Entire Yoga Class' signals that imperfection and laughter are mainstreaming wellness snake yoga YouTube.

HISSS — the three-S reptile shop that’s hosting the classes — held its grand opening on Aug. 23, 2025, and lists its storefront at 2106 NE M L King Blvd in Portland. (hisssthereptileshop.com) Owner Dru Morales launched the shop as a reptile-centered retail-and-service space, according to local coverage. (opb.org) The program reportedly began running classes in October 2025 under a named instructor (coverage alternately identifies her as Katy Fay or Katy Vanek), with outlets noting the discrepancy in reporting. (a-z-animals.com) Reports describe a rotating roster of animals used in sessions — pythons from about 1 to 7 feet long, a baby Colombian common boa called Mango, a carpet python named Gemma, and occasional other reptiles — with staff handlers bringing animals out one at a time. (prismnews.com) Coverage and shop write-ups say HISSS developed participant consent tokens and stress-monitoring protocols for animal welfare, and several outlets describe classes as selling out or running regularly as part of the shop’s programming. (sanctuarynews.org) The online video you mentioned appears on the Family Friendly channel, which frames “We Ruined An Entire Yoga Class” as a punishment video tied to a separate challenge and lists the channel at roughly 3.1 million subscribers in its description. (youtube.com) NPR’s Deena Prichep ran a March 11 segment on the phenomenon and OPB published a feature on March 15, prompting republication across regional outlets and spawning the mix of local reporting and viral clips now circulating.
