Netflix star London Chase opened Seventy Seven Alley in NYC's Tribeca, drawing inspiration from the neighborhood's gallery culture. The chef-driven concept promises a fusion of visual art and culinary creativity. The restaurant represents the latest celebrity chef venture capitalizing on streaming fame.
London Chase earned the nickname "the mad scientist" for his inventive approach on Netflix's "Next Gen Chef," where he reached the semi-finals. He distinguished himself in challenges by taking risks, such as preparing a glazed lobster with tamarind curry in a tandoor, a piece of equipment he had never used before, which won him a pin of excellence. Before his television debut, Chase honed his skills in prestigious kitchens globally, including Le Gavroche in London, Orsa & Winston in Los Angeles, and Essential by Christophe in New York City. Born in French Guiana and raised in London, his international background is reflected in the restaurant's modern global dining concept. Seventy Seven Alley, located inside the Walker Hotel Tribeca, is designed to feel more like a creative studio than a traditional restaurant, with a dining room that will function as a revolving art gallery. The opening art installation will even feature pieces created by Chase himself, directly linking the culinary and visual arts. The menu is structured around what Chase calls "flavor architecture," focusing on elemental taste profiles like heat, acid, salt, depth, and fat. Guests can dine à la carte or at an eight-seat chef's counter for a more immersive tasting experience. Signature dishes include Viking Village Scallops with pickled napa cabbage and a riff on a New York City classic: a chopped cheese made with koji-aged wagyu and truffle. The cocktail menu mirrors the food's flavor-driven approach, with creations like the "Fat Duck," made with bacon fat-washed whiskey.
