Nintendo raises Switch 2 price to $499.99

Nintendo of America said on May 7 it will raise the U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the Switch 2 to $499.99 from $449.99 beginning Sept. 1, according to a post on Nintendo’s official news site. The company said the change applies to the Nintendo Switch 2 system in the United States and cited “various changes in market conditions” expected to last over the medium to long term. Nintendo said pricing for the original Nintendo Switch system is not changing. The company also said pricing for the Switch 2 in Latin America will be shared later. ### When did Nintendo announce the increase, and what exactly changes? Nintendo’s official notice was published May 7, 2026, and says the U.S. MSRP for the Switch 2 system will move to $499.99 on Sept. 1 from the current $449.99. The increase is $50. The notice refers specifically to the Nintendo Switch 2 system and does not say the original Switch or Switch Lite will see a U.S. price change. The current product page for the Switch 2 still shows a $449.99 MSRP, matching the pre-increase price Nintendo announced for launch in April 2025. Nintendo said at that time that the U.S. launch price would remain $449.99 and that retail pre-orders would begin April 24, 2025. ### What reason did Nintendo give? Nintendo said the revision is “in response to various changes in market conditions,” according to the May 7 statement. The company did not specify those conditions in the notice and did not provide a breakdown of component, logistics or tariff costs in the statement visible on its U.S. site. CNBC reported on May 8 that Nintendo also disclosed price increases for Switch 2 in Japan, Canada and Europe, though Nintendo’s U.S. statement only says Latin America pricing will be announced later. That report also said Nintendo forecast console sales would decline in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027. ### Is Nintendo offering any way to still pay $499.99 before Sept. 1? Nintendo said in a separate May 12 announcement that participating retailers would offer a “Choose Your Game Bundle” at a suggested retail price of $499.99 starting in early June. That bundle includes a Switch 2 system and a download code for one of three games: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza or Pokémon Pokopia. Nintendo’s retail offers page still lists that bundle and says buyers can save up to $29.99 with a choice of game, while the standalone system remains listed at $449.99 MSRP. The same page says the offer is available at participating retailers while supplies last. ### Does the increase affect the original Switch lineup? Nintendo said in its May 7 notice that pricing for the Nintendo Switch system is not changing in the United States. The statement does not mention a U.S. price revision for Switch OLED or Switch Lite, and the company’s wording separates the Switch 2 system from the older Switch family. The company’s earlier April 2025 pricing announcement also distinguished the Switch 2 from accessories and software, listing separate launch prices for the console, bundle, games and hardware add-ons. That provides the baseline from which the Sept. 1 console increase is being measured. ### What happens next, and what should buyers watch?
