Eslite’s Art Basel push

Eslite Gallery is mounting a joint Beijing–Taipei exhibition for Art Basel Hong Kong, pairing generational geometry from Xiong Bingming (1922–2002) with contemporary work by Zhan Wang (b. 1962) — Art Basel Hong Kong opens March 27 Jetso TodaySCMP.

Eslite will present the twin Beijing–Taipei installation at booth 3D14 jetsotoday.com inside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with VIP preview days scheduled for March 25–26. artbasel.com Curators from Eslite’s Beijing and Taipei teams framed the show around geometric correspondences, citing the half‑circular cut in Xiong’s iconic Standing Horse (立馬) as a visual bridge to Zhan Wang’s geometric sculpture series. limedia.tw Xiong’s Standing Horse (made between 1959 and 1966) uses a bronze/copper plane‑cut of the horse’s haunch to produce what he described as a “穿空剔透” spatial effect, a strategy rooted in his Paris training under Marcel Gimond. limedia.tw Eslite is showing a 2025 work by Zhan titled Golden Ratio 1:1.618, which the gallery says formalizes Zhan’s ongoing interest in proportion and geometric ordering within his Stainless‑Steel Artificial Rock investigations. limedia.tw Zhan’s stainless‑steel Artificial Rock series—part of major collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and M+—recasts scholar‑rock tradition in industrial metal, creating reflective, highly polished surfaces that contrast with Xiong’s patinated bronze. metmuseum.org The presentation places Eslite—which was the first Taiwanese gallery selected for Art Basel in 2009 and has previously shown artists such as Xu Bing and Liu Xiaodong—among the fair’s 240 participating galleries in 2026. limedia.tw
