A 43-year-old parolee was arrested in Fremont after police said he fled officers and hid inside a garbage dumpster on April 20. (kron4.com) Fremont police said the encounter began at 8:38 a.m. near Industrial Drive and South Grimmer Boulevard, where patrol officers stopped a man they described as suspicious and saw the handle of a gun protruding from his clothing. (kron4.com) Police said the man ran on foot through barbed wire, and officers set up a containment area around nearby businesses while searching for him. (kron4.com) Bystanders then pointed officers to a dumpster on Pestana Court, where police said Fortino Preciado was hiding. Officers used a drone to watch the container from above, opened the lid, and sent in a police dog to help take him into custody. (kron4.com) The arrest added new charges to Preciado’s status as a parolee from an earlier resisting-arrest case. Fremont police said he was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and resisting arrest. (kron4.com) The case unfolded in Fremont’s industrial area near Grimmer Boulevard, a corridor police have tied to other recent violent and weapons investigations. The department’s public news log shows a fatal crash on Grimmer Boulevard on March 28 and an officer-involved shooting investigation in the Blacow Road and Mattos Court area on February 14. (fremontpolice.gov, fremontpolice.gov) Fremont police have not posted a separate press release about the dumpster arrest on their news page as of April 23, 2026, but the department’s site says its Week in Review blotter is not always published because of staffing and resource limits. (fremontpolice.gov, fremontpolice.gov) Preciado was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, and the arrest ended without reported injuries after a chase that started with a visible gun handle and ended in a dumpster a few blocks away.
