Steph Curry Sidelined for Playoffs

The Golden State Warriors' playoff prospects are looking shaky as star Steph Curry remains sidelined with a runner's knee. While his brother Seth has just returned to the lineup, the team's postseason hopes may hinge on the health of its main superstar.

Steph Curry has been sidelined since late January with patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as "runner's knee". While an MRI showed no structural damage, the recovery is taking longer than initially expected, with one sports medicine expert noting such injuries can sometimes take up to three months to heal. The Warriors' record without their superstar this season is a telling 9-15. Over the last 10 games Curry has missed, the team has a 4-6 record, highlighting their struggle to consistently win without him on the floor. A recent loss to the Utah Jazz dropped the team's record to 32-32, marking the first time they have been at .500 since December 29th. Draymond Green's performance, in particular, has seen a significant decline without Curry's presence. In February, the Warriors' net rating with Green on the court was a staggering -20.8. When Green was on the bench during that same period, the team's net rating jumped to +7.5, illustrating the offensive spacing challenges the team faces. The loss in Utah came despite the return of Seth Curry, who had been inactive for 40 games with a sciatic injury. In his first game back, Seth scored an efficient 13 points in just 12 minutes of play. The game was ultimately decided by a late three-pointer from former Warriors G League player Blake Hinson. Golden State's depth is being severely tested as they are also navigating injuries to other key players, including Kristaps Porzingis and Moses Moody. This has forced the team to rely on younger players and two-way contract athletes for meaningful minutes during a critical stretch of the season. Currently sitting in the play-in tournament range of the Western Conference, the Warriors face a difficult schedule ahead. Following their game against the Chicago Bulls, they will embark on a six-game road trip that includes matchups at Madison Square Garden and with the Boston Celtics.
