Oura Launches AI for Women's Health
Smart ring maker Oura has launched a proprietary large language model focused on women’s health. The feature, named “Oura Advisor,” provides personalized, clinician-reviewed insights on menstrual cycles and hormonal changes. The AI is trained on biomedical research and anonymized user data to offer tailored guidance on training, recovery, and sleep.
- This is Oura's first proprietary large language model, moving the company beyond using general-purpose AI and toward developing specialized models for specific health applications. - The AI is designed to be "non-dismissive and emotionally supportive," a direct response to feedback on how women's health concerns are sometimes minimized in traditional healthcare settings. - To ensure user privacy, the AI model is hosted entirely on Oura-controlled infrastructure, and user conversations are not sold or used to train any third-party AI systems. - The feature is currently being rolled out for testing within Oura Labs, an opt-in program where members can try experimental features and provide feedback to shape future development. - This initiative builds on Oura's previous women's health features, including Cycle Insights, which launched in September 2023, and dedicated pregnancy and perimenopause tracking capabilities. - The company's focus on AI was bolstered by a significant funding round in October 2025, where it raised over $900 million at an approximately $11 billion valuation, with funds earmarked for AI and product innovation. - Oura CEO Tom Hale has stated a vision of the ring becoming a "doctor in your pocket" and an "operating system for your health," with AI capable of forecasting health events years in advance. - Competitors like Samsung's Galaxy Ring and the Amazfit Helio Ring are also entering the smart ring market with AI-powered insights, but Oura aims to differentiate itself with research-backed accuracy and specialized models.
