Max Renews Giro Coverage
- Warner Bros. Discovery extended Giro d’Italia coverage across HBO Max, Eurosport and TNT Sports in Europe and the U.S. - The renewal covers both the men’s and women’s races and continues platform distribution internationally. - For Max, sports rights act as subscription‑retention infrastructure that complements scripted content without the same headline costs. Warner Bros. Discovery has renewed its Giro d’Italia rights, keeping the race on HBO Max, Eurosport and TNT Sports across Europe and the United States. (media.wbdsports.com) The deal covers the men’s Giro, the Giro d’Italia Women and other RCS Sport races including Strade Bianche, Milan-Sanremo and Il Lombardia, Warner Bros. Discovery said on April 22. The company said the agreement extends its Giro relationship beyond 30 years after Eurosport first carried the race in 1998. (media.wbdsports.com) Warner Bros. Discovery said live television coverage will run in 50 European markets on Eurosport, with TNT Sports carrying the races in the United Kingdom and Ireland. HBO Max will stream the events live and on demand in Europe and the United States, including in the UK after Max’s March launch there, the company said. (media.wbdsports.com) The renewal keeps one of cycling’s three men’s Grand Tours inside Warner Bros. Discovery’s sports bundle as Max tries to hold subscribers with year-round live events alongside HBO series and films. When Max rolled out in Europe in 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery pitched Eurosport’s live sports as part of the service’s core offer, not a separate side business. (press.wbd.com) Cycling fits that strategy because it delivers dozens of live race days across the calendar rather than a short playoff window. In May 2025, Warner Bros. Discovery said it would show all 21 Giro stages live, totaling 110 hours, with exclusive rights in more than 50 markets. (media.wbdsports.com) The women’s race now carries more weight in that package because its calendar slot has moved closer to the men’s event. The Union Cycliste Internationale lists the 2026 Giro d’Italia Women for May 30 to June 7, immediately after the men’s Giro runs from May 8 to May 31. (uci.org) (giroditalia.it) That sequencing gives Warner Bros. Discovery nearly a month of continuous Giro programming across its channels and apps. The official Giro site says the 2026 men’s race starts in Bulgaria and ends in Rome, while the women’s edition follows with nine stages. (giroditalia.it) (uci.org) The company is also leaning on sports to support a streaming business that is still being judged on scale and profitability. Warner Bros. Discovery reported 122.3 million streaming subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2025, up 5.3 million from the prior quarter. (ir.wbd.com) For viewers, the immediate result is simpler than the rights language: the Giro stays where it already lives on Warner Bros. Discovery’s platforms. For Max, that means another spring in which cycling helps keep the app open between prestige dramas and the next big sports window. (media.wbdsports.com)
