Major League Volleyball Hires First Commissioner
Major League Volleyball has appointed Jaime Weston as its first-ever Commissioner. The move comes as the professional women's volleyball league enters its third season, signaling a pivotal moment in its growth and professionalization in the U.S.
Weston brings over two decades of leadership from the NFL, Universal Music Group, and most recently, as the Chief Commercial Officer for USA Volleyball. At the NFL, she was a key part of the marketing team for over 15 years, where she directed brand management, fan development, and advertising. The league, now in its third season, was originally launched in January 2024 as the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF). The rebranding to Major League Volleyball followed a merger with the startup MLV after a dispute involving the Omaha Supernovas, an original PVF team. The league has attracted a number of high-profile investors and team owners, including International artist Jason Derulo, five-time Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings, and Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé. The league currently has eight teams, with plans to expand to at least ten by 2027. Major League Volleyball is one of several professional women's volleyball leagues in the United States, alongside Athletes Unlimited and League One Volleyball (LOVB), all competing for talent and viewership. The establishment of these leagues comes at a time of significant growth for the sport. The 2023 NCAA Championship match drew a record 1.7 million viewers, and a regular-season collegiate match in Nebraska attracted a crowd of over 92,000 fans, setting a new attendance record for a women's sporting event. In its inaugural season, the PVF reported nearly 400,000 fans in attendance across all matches and 9 million total views on YouTube. The league's first season saw the Omaha Supernovas set a U.S. record for attendance at a professional women's volleyball match with 11,624 fans at their opening game. In 2025, a PVF All-Star Match on CBS peaked at 445,000 viewers. Player salaries in the league range from $60,000 to $175,000, and the league was the first to offer players revenue sharing from its first day of operation. Major League Volleyball has broadcast deals with CBS Sports Network, Vice TV, The Roku Channel, and Ion. These partnerships aim to capitalize on the growing viewership of women's sports, which saw the 2023 NCAA women's basketball championship draw nearly 10 million viewers.
