OpenAI tighter enterprise packaging

OpenAI updated product packaging so Enterprise and Education workspaces can choose from the full set of ChatGPT models and the macOS desktop app can transcribe and summarise recordings into follow-ups, plans or code. The shift looks less about model capability and more about segmenting access by workspace, entitlement and use case. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com)

OpenAI has redrawn who gets which ChatGPT tools: Enterprise and Education workspaces can now pick from the full model lineup inside Custom GPTs, while the Mac app can turn recordings into written work products. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) The Enterprise and Edu release notes say the change landed on April 9, 2026, and covers model choice when teams build Custom GPTs. OpenAI lists examples including GPT-4o, o3 and o4-mini, and says Plus, Pro and Team users got the same Custom GPT model-picker earlier in April. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) A separate Help Center page says Record mode in the macOS app can transcribe meetings, brainstorms and voice notes, save the summary as a canvas, and turn that material into project plans, emails or code. OpenAI’s general release notes say the feature is already available to Plus users globally on macOS. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) The packaging change comes after OpenAI rewrote its plan descriptions around use case and allowance, not just raw model access. Its Pro plan page says Plus costs $20 a month for lighter use, while Pro costs $100 a month for “real projects” with higher limits and access to the company’s most capable Pro model. (help.openai.com) OpenAI also updated its Enterprise plan description on April 2, 2026, saying organizations get access through workspace roles, seat types and company controls. That framing puts entitlement at the workspace level: what a user can do depends on the plan, the admin settings and where the work happens. (help.openai.com) The model list itself has been moving quickly. OpenAI’s model notes say several older ChatGPT options, including GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini and o4-mini, were retired from the main picker on February 13, 2026, while Business, Enterprise and Edu customers kept GPT-4o inside Custom GPTs until April 3. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com) That makes the April 9 update less about unveiling a brand-new model than about where OpenAI is willing to expose models that already exist. In practice, a company can now steer employees toward different models for different internal GPTs without asking staff to juggle separate personal subscriptions. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com) The Mac changes point in the same direction. OpenAI’s macOS app already works with coding tools, terminals and notes apps, and Record mode now turns spoken conversations into canvases that can feed follow-up tasks in the same desktop workflow. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com) Taken together, the updates show OpenAI selling access as a managed workspace product: one set of models, different doors, and more ways to turn chats and recordings into work inside the company account.
