AI Transforms Fitness Tech Startups
The fitness tech space is getting a major AI upgrade. ROXFIT just raised £1.9M for an AI-powered training platform for HYROX athletes, while TeamUp launched an AI business advisor to help gyms optimize operations. The trend shows a clear shift toward blending digital guidance with real-world events and business intelligence.
The £1.9M seed round for ROXFIT was led by existing investor DSW Ventures, with participation from SWIM Capital, York Angels, and strategic angel investor Peter Markham. This infusion builds upon a previous £800,000 pre-seed round, bringing the company's total funding to over £2.7M. ROXFIT's user base has surged from 80,000 in May 2025 to over 260,000 across 185 countries, a growth fueled almost entirely by its integration with the HYROX community. The HYROX fitness racing series itself is expanding at a phenomenal rate, with participation jumping from 175,000 in the 2023-2024 season to over 650,000 in 2024-2025. Founded by Christian Toetzke and three-time Olympic medalist Moritz Furste, HYROX is now one of the fastest-growing sports globally, with forecasts projecting 1.3 million participants and over $220 million in revenue by 2026. Its appeal lies in its accessibility, combining running with functional fitness in a standardized format that allows for global competition. On the B2B side, TeamUp's AI Business Advisor moves beyond simple management software by analyzing a fitness business's own performance data to identify key trends, risks, and growth opportunities. The tool is designed to turn complex data into actionable recommendations, helping gym owners optimize scheduling, staffing, and member engagement without manually digging through reports. This trend is part of a much larger market shift. The global AI in fitness and wellness market was valued at over $10.6 billion in 2025 and is projected to skyrocket to nearly $58 billion by 2035. This growth is driven by the increasing demand for hyper-personalized training, nutrition plans, and predictive health insights. The ultimate goal of these AI integrations is the democratization of elite-level guidance. For athletes, AI offers real-time adaptive training based on biometric data, while for business owners, it provides strategic insights that were previously resource-intensive to obtain.
