Ikea Launches Retro and Bauhaus-Inspired Lines
Ikea has released several new limited-edition collections for 2026 that draw on vintage and modernist influences. The Nytillverkad collection revives floral patterns from the 1960s and '70s. In contrast, the Tesammans collection, a collaboration with design duo Raw Color, features a bold, Bauhaus-inspired palette and geometric forms.
- The Nytillverkad collection, which translates to "newly manufactured" in Swedish, is part of an ongoing series launched for Ikea's 80th anniversary to revive archival designs for a new generation. - This latest release features reimagined works from key figures in Ikea's history, including Gillis Lundgren, designer of the iconic Billy bookshelf, and Karin Mobring, the company's first female designer. - Specific relaunched products include Lundgren’s 1967 “anti-stress” MILA swivel armchair, now named DYVLINGE, and his 1969 PUCK armchair, reintroduced as the SOTENÄS. - The Tesammans collection's collaborator, Raw Color, is an Eindhoven-based studio founded by Daniera ter Haar and Christoph Brach, whose work explores how colors interact with light, materials, and each other. - The 18-piece Tesammans collection includes items specifically designed to showcase color interplay, such as a storage unit on castors that produces a moiré effect when moved and stacked lampshades that create varied light reflections. - Limited-edition drops are a key marketing strategy for Ikea, creating scarcity and generating excitement in a manner similar to the fashion industry. Previous high-profile collaborations have included collections with designer Virgil Abloh and audio company Sonos.
