Consumer EV regret rising?
A YouTube video highlights growing consumer frustrations with EV purchases, potentially impacting market sentiment and adoption rates.
Consumer frustration stems from issues like charging failures, slow charging speeds, and software glitches. Some EVs aren't capable of rapid charging at advertised speeds, and charging flaps can get stuck. Batteries being remotely deactivated and leaving drivers stranded also contribute to dissatisfaction. Consumer Reports indicates EVs have nearly 80% more problems than gas-powered cars, especially with battery and charging systems. Flaws in body panel and interior part fits are also common complaints. Plug-in hybrids are even worse, with 150% more problems due to their complex dual power systems. Surveys show about 10% of EV owners regret their purchase, citing insufficient charging infrastructure, battery degradation, and long charging times. BMW owners show a higher regret level, with 20% expressing dissatisfaction, potentially linked to spending over 11 hours monthly charging outside the home. Even Tesla owners aren't immune, with 10% having regrets. A French study found 54% of EV owners regretting their purchase due to rising electricity prices. Lack of charging price transparency and the need for multiple apps also contribute to buyer's remorse. Despite higher purchase costs, EVs can still be more energy-efficient than combustion engine cars.
