American Football Announces Fourth Album
Influential emo and indie band American Football has confirmed their fourth LP set for release May 1. This marks their first new album since 2019 and is already highly anticipated within the indie and alternative music communities.
- The band originally formed in 1997 while its members were students at the University of Illinois, released its influential debut album in 1999, and then disbanded in 2000 before reuniting 14 years later. - All of the band's full-length albums are self-titled, leading fans and critics to refer to them chronologically as *LP1* (1999), *LP2* (2016), *LP3* (2019), and now *LP4*. - The group's 1999 debut album became a cult classic after their breakup, with a successful 2014 reissue prompting the band to reunite for live shows and eventually new music. - The upcoming album features the return of original drummer Steve Lamos, who left the band in 2021 for personal reasons but officially rejoined in 2023. - To support the new album, the band has announced an extensive 2026 tour across North America, Europe, and the UK, with a portion of each ticket sale being donated to immigrant and refugee rights charities. - The band's previous album featured their first-ever guest artist, with Hayley Williams of Paramore providing vocals on the single "Uncomfortably Numb." - In May 2023, the band purchased the actual house in Urbana, Illinois, featured on the iconic cover of their 1999 debut album to save it from potential demolition.
