UGREEN Launches New Thunderbolt 5 Docks

UGREEN has launched two new Thunderbolt 5 docking stations in the United States. The Maxidok 17-in-1 and 10-in-1 docks are designed to give professionals and power users more ports, higher speeds, and better multi-display support for demanding workflows.

The debut of UGREEN's Thunderbolt 5 docks signals a new phase in the evolution of high-speed connectivity, a technology originally co-developed by Intel and Apple and first released in 2011. Known initially as Light Peak, the interface has progressively increased in speed, from 10 Gbps with the first generation to 40 Gbps with Thunderbolt 4, setting the stage for the latest leap in performance. Intel officially announced the Thunderbolt 5 specification on September 12, 2023, promising significant upgrades for professionals and gamers. The new standard doubles the bi-directional bandwidth of its predecessor to 80 Gbps and introduces a "Bandwidth Boost" feature that can increase video-intensive throughput up to 120 Gbps. This allows for more demanding multi-monitor setups, such as three 4K displays at 144Hz. A key advancement in Thunderbolt 5 is the increased power delivery, now supporting up to 240W, a substantial jump from the 100W offered by Thunderbolt 4. This enhancement is designed to power and charge even the most demanding laptops and workstations through a single cable, further simplifying high-performance desktop setups. UGREEN's 17-in-1 Maxidok is entering a competitive market alongside other brands like Anker, CalDigit, and OWC, who are also releasing their own Thunderbolt 5 docking stations. The Maxidok 17-in-1 is priced at €459.99, with pre-orders open and sales beginning March 24. A more streamlined 10-in-1 version is also available for €299.99. The UGREEN flagship 17-in-1 model distinguishes itself with features aimed at power users, including a built-in M.2 SSD slot for expandable storage and up to 240W of total power delivery. For Apple users, a specialized 10-in-1 dock designed to sit flush with the Mac mini chassis is also planned for release in late April or early May. The broader market for Thunderbolt devices is on a significant growth trajectory, with projections indicating a market value reaching USD 1,114.0 million in 2025 and an expected rise to USD 3,571.9 million by 2032. This growth is largely driven by the increasing need for high-speed data transfer in professional sectors like media and entertainment, and the rising adoption of high-performance laptops. North America currently holds the largest market share for Thunderbolt devices.
