A Utah man with Parkinson’s disease is preparing to run the 130th Boston Marathon on April 20, 2026. (ksl.com) KSL and Fox 13 both identified him as a Syracuse man in Davis County who is training for Boston after his diagnosis. The race is set for Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 20, according to the Boston Athletic Association. (ksl.com) (fox13now.com) (baa.org) Parkinson’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that affects movement, balance, and muscle control over time. Federal and nonprofit health groups list tremor, stiffness, slowed movement, and walking problems among the core symptoms. (ninds.nih.gov) (parkinson.org) Running a marathon with Parkinson’s means training through a condition that can make basic motion less automatic. The Parkinson’s Foundation says exercise and physical therapy help people maintain mobility and ease symptoms, even though the disease worsens over time. (parkinson.org) (mayoclinic.org) Boston gives that effort a bigger stage because it remains one of road racing’s most selective and visible events. The Boston Athletic Association says 30,000 participants are expected for the 2026 race. (baa.org) The marathon also runs on charity entries as well as qualifying times. The Boston Athletic Association said 193 organizations were selected for the 2026 official charity program, which makes up nearly 10% of the field and raised a record $50.4 million in 2025. (baa.org) (wcvb.com) Parkinson’s groups are part of that fundraising ecosystem around Boston. The Parkinson’s Foundation and the Michael J. Fox Foundation both had 2026 Boston Marathon fundraising pages live this week. (parkinson.org) (michaeljfox.org) For this runner, Boston is both a 26.2-mile race and a public test of what daily training can look like after a Parkinson’s diagnosis. On April 20, he will line up in Hopkinton with thousands of other runners and head toward Boylston Street. (ksl.com) (baa.org)
