UNC's Wilson Injury Update

UNC coach Hubert Davis revealed that Caleb Wilson has had his cast removed and is doing individual workouts but hasn't participated in 5-on-5 practice yet. There's a chance Wilson could return for Saturday's game against Duke, though Davis emphasized getting him 100% healthy is the priority.

Caleb Wilson, a 6-foot-10 freshman forward, has been sidelined since fracturing his left, non-shooting hand in a game against Miami on February 10. The injury was initially thought to be a sprain after X-rays during the game came back negative, but further imaging later revealed the fracture. Before the injury, Wilson was having a standout season, leading UNC in scoring with 19.8 points per game and rebounding with 9.4 per game. The Atlanta native, who is a projected top-five NBA draft pick, also leads the team in steals and blocks. In Wilson's absence, the Tar Heels have a record of 5-1. His potential return comes just in time for the final game of the regular season against their biggest rival, Duke. This matchup is one of the most intense rivalries in college basketball, known as the "Battle of the Blues," with the two universities located just ten miles apart. Both teams are consistently among the nation's elite, combining for 11 NCAA championships. Currently, Duke holds the top spot in the ACC standings with a 16-1 conference record, while UNC sits in fourth place at 12-5. In their last meeting on February 7, North Carolina secured a 71-68 victory over Duke. The Tar Heels recently set a new program record with 18 home wins in a single season, finishing undefeated at the Dean Smith Center. Their upcoming game against Duke will be played on the road at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
