New Greek Restaurant Planned for Downtown San Jose
The owners of Flames restaurant are planning to open a new 6,000-square-foot Mediterranean and Greek restaurant in Downtown San Jose. The eatery will be located on South First Street in the former E&O Trading Company space. The launch is targeted for late summer and it will be the only Greek restaurant in the downtown area.
- The planned restaurant, Nemea Greek Taverna, opened in the former E&O Trading Company space at 96 S. First Street. - Nemea Greek Taverna permanently closed its Downtown San Jose location and, as of late 2022, the owner planned to reopen the restaurant in Palo Alto. - The restaurant that Nemea replaced, E&O Trading Company, was a Southeast Asian restaurant that had been a downtown fixture for over a decade. - The owners of Flames restaurant, who were behind the initial plan, also operated other locations in the Bay Area. Their Flames Eatery & Bar on Fourth Street closed in December 2022 and was replaced by a Chinese restaurant called Home Eat. - While the initial announcement in 2011 highlighted that the new eatery would be the only Greek restaurant in the downtown area, Downtown San Jose now has other Greek dining options, such as Nick the Greek on West Santa Clara Street. - The owner of Nemea Greek Taverna, Dino Tekdemir, also owns other local restaurants, including Anatolian Kitchen and Naschmarkt Restaurant.
