Latin America has its first three-Michelin-star restaurants: Evvai and Tuju, both in São Paulo, joined the top tier on April 13. (guide.michelin.com) The awards were announced at the Michelin Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2026 ceremony at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro. Michelin said the 2026 guide still covers only those two Brazilian cities. (guide.michelin.com) Both restaurants were promoted from two stars, according to Brazilian coverage of the ceremony, and no restaurant in Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo lost stars in this edition. Madame Olympe, in Rio’s Leblon neighborhood, was the only new one-star restaurant. (g1.globo.com) Evvai is led by Luiz Filipe Souza, whose menu mixes Brazilian and Italian influences. Michelin described the restaurant’s “Oriundi” tasting menu as a dialogue between Brazil and Italy. (elle.com.br) (guide.michelin.com) Tuju is led by Ivan Ralston, and Michelin kept it in a small group of Brazilian restaurants with a Green Star for sustainability. GQ Brasil listed Tuju, A Casa do Porco and Corrutela as the 2026 Green Star holders. (elle.com.br) (gq.globo.com) The result closes an 11-year gap between Michelin’s arrival in Brazil and the first three-star awards there. ELLE Brasil said the guide reached the country in 2015, and the 2026 edition is the first to place any Latin American restaurant at Michelin’s highest rating. (elle.com.br) (guide.michelin.com) Michelin says its inspectors judge restaurants on five criteria: ingredient quality, harmony of flavors, mastery of techniques, the chef’s personality in the cuisine, and consistency over time. In the same 2026 guide, D.O.M. in São Paulo and Lasai and Oro in Rio kept two stars. (gq.globo.com) Michelin also said the 2026 Brazil selection includes 149 establishments in total, with 12 new additions across categories. That leaves São Paulo with the region’s first two destinations that Michelin says are worth a trip on their own. (guide.michelin.com)
