The M4 MacBook Air's 5/10 repairability score from iFixit stands in stark contrast to competitors like Microsoft, whose latest Surface devices earned an 8/10, showcasing a significant design philosophy divergence. This middling score continues a trend for the Air, with the 2020 model scoring 4/10 and the 2018 version just 3/10. Key hardware obstacles remain by design; the unified memory and storage are soldered directly to the M4 silicon, precluding any future upgrades.
