Anime Double Feature

"The World's Strongest Rearguard" isekai anime drops July 2026 by MAHO FILM (1,124 likes), while "Matsurika Kanriden" — a Chinese-style shoujo palace intrigue — premieres January 2027 (807 likes). Both represent major fantasy anime releases for the next year.

"The World's Strongest Rearguard" is based on a light novel series written by Toowa and illustrated by Huuka Kazabana, which first began as a web novel in 2017. The story follows Arihito Atobe, a corporate drone who, after dying in a bus crash, is reincarnated into a fantasy world where he chooses the rare and powerful "rearguard" job class. The anime adaptation is being directed by Yūji Yanase, with Deko Akao handling the series composition. Animation studio MAHO FILM, founded in 2018, is at the helm; the studio has previously produced numerous other isekai series, including "By the Grace of the Gods" and "I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss." "Matsurika Kanriden" originates from a Japanese light novel series written by Rinne Ishida and illustrated by Izumi, which has been in publication since July 2017. The romantic fantasy, inspired by Chinese history, also has a manga adaptation that has been serialized in the shoujo magazine Princess since August 2018. The story centers on Kō, a commoner with an exceptional memory who rises from a palace maid to a government official. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she meets the emperor, Hakuyo, during a stand-in for a matchmaking session, and he takes an interest in her unique abilities. The anime adaptation of this series is also being produced by MAHO FILM.
