Celtics Edge Spurs, Brown Ejected
The Boston Celtics narrowly defeated the San Antonio Spurs 76-75, but Jaylen Brown was ejected after a controversial call [https://x.com/i/status/2031549129978241441].
Brown was ejected after arguing a non-call where he felt he was pushed out of bounds by Spurs guard Stephon Castle. Crew chief Tyler Ford issued the first technical foul for "aggressively pointing and using profanity and resentment to the no call". Umpire Suyash Mehta then assessed a second technical, leading to the ejection. After the ejection, Brown immediately took to X, posting: "This the s--t I be talking about". This alluded to his previous frustrations with officiating, particularly after a January loss to the Spurs where he criticized the referees and was later fined $35,000. In that prior game, he felt the Spurs "got away with a lot" due to inconsistent foul calls. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla responded to the ejection with a thinly veiled shot at the officiating crew. Mazzulla stated, "I just give a ton of credit to my high school principal. He had the balls to throw a student out. He didn't leave it to the hall monitor," implying that crew chief Ford should have been the one to make the ejection call instead of Mehta. Mazzulla also voiced his support for Brown, saying he understood Brown's frustration and "got his back 100%". Despite the controversial call and Brown's ejection, the Celtics narrowly secured the win against the Spurs. Before exiting the game, Brown had already accumulated 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists in 15 minutes.
