Stanford Hosts 'Physical AI' Robotics Event

PL-Universe Robotics and Stanford University held a flagship event on "Physical AI" and robotics on February 26. The conference gathered experts to discuss topics like visual language models for autonomy and the future of robotics in manufacturing.

The event's theme, "Robots Master the Production Line? PL-Universe: VLA for Autonomy, Robotics & Investment," brought together a mix of robotics practitioners, investors, academics, and students from Stanford. Discussions focused on the breakthroughs in Vision Language Models (VLA), the deployment of industrial robotics, and investment strategies for the era of Embodied AI. PL-Universe's Founder & COO, Ge Jin, presented a new approach for intelligent manufacturing. The proposed solution involves a "universal ontology + rapidly replaceable dedicated end-effectors" to meet industrial needs for flexibility and large-scale deployment. Quan Kuichen, who leads the Large Model Team at PL-Universe, explained the company's technical progress in applying VLA to industrial settings. He highlighted breakthroughs in multi-modal data collection, cloud-edge collaboration, and few-shot learning, which help move AI from research labs to factory floors with sub-millimeter precision. Automotive industry observer Xing Lei offered a global perspective on the physical AI landscape. He noted that while the U.S. currently leads in algorithms and chips, China has an advantage in supply chains and practical application scenarios, suggesting a need for cooperation between the two countries. From a financial standpoint, TSVC General Partner Spencer Greene discussed the investment logic for Embodied AI. He pointed to structural labor shortages as a key driver for investment and stressed the importance of focusing on real commercial value over the hype surrounding humanoid robots.
