Paris is turning Record Store Day into a 12-hour public program at Ground Control on Saturday, April 18, with free entry from noon to midnight. (parisjetaime.com) The event is billed as “The Vinyl and Labels Festival” and will bring more than 70 independent labels into Ground Control’s main hall for a vinyl market running from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. (parisjetaime.com) Talks are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on music-industry jobs, label creation and the history of album covers, while a photo exhibition by Philippe Lévy and a “Discomaton” booth for cutting your own record are part of the all-day program. (parisjetaime.com) Live music starts at 3:30 p.m. and runs to 7:30 p.m. across two stages, with eight acts listed: Nouvelle Vague, June The Girl, Marie Sarah, Flore Benguigui and the Sensible Notes, J-Silk, Nerlov, Olympe Chabert and Sänd. (parisjetaime.com) The late program shifts back to records, with vinyl-only DJ sets from The Supermen Lovers and Sam Karlson from 10 p.m. to midnight. Ground Control is at 81 rue du Charolais in Paris’s 12th arrondissement. (parisjetaime.com) In France, the event is branded Disquaire Day, the local edition of Record Store Day, which returns nationwide on April 18. Sortiraparis says around 40 independent record shops in Paris and the Île-de-France region are taking part this year. (sortiraparis.com) Record Store Day’s model is still centered on physical shops: the official organization says the special releases are sold through participating brick-and-mortar stores, with no pre-orders, and any leftover online sales begin the next day, Sunday, April 19. (recordstoreday.com) Ground Control’s Paris program adds a festival layer to that retail scramble. Le Parisien says this is the third SCPP edition at the venue, with children’s sleeve-design workshops included alongside the market, talks, concerts and DJ sets. (leparisien.fr) For collectors, the day still starts with limited records at independent shops. For everyone else, Ground Control is offering the easier entry point: a free, all-day vinyl event without a ticket. (recordstoreday.com)
