Netflix Star Opens Tribeca Restaurant
Chef and Netflix star London Chase has opened Seventy Seven Alley in downtown Manhattan's Tribeca. The restaurant blends culinary artistry with gallery-inspired aesthetics, aiming to become a new hotspot for chef-driven dining in NYC.
London Chase's journey to Seventy Seven Alley includes a global culinary education, with time spent in demanding kitchens like the Michelin-starred Le Gavroche in London, Orsa & Winston in Los Angeles, and Essential by Christophe in New York City. Before his appearance on Netflix's "Next Gen Chef," he was already making a name for himself in New York at Manhatta and as the executive chef of the Afro-Caribbean restaurant Mango Bay in Brooklyn. The restaurant's menu is built around what Chase calls "flavor architecture," a concept that organizes dishes by elemental taste profiles like heat, acid, salt, depth, and richness, rather than traditional courses. This approach guides diners through a series of layered and contrasting culinary experiences. Signature dishes that exemplify this philosophy include Viking Village Scallops with pickled napa cabbage and a Santa Barbara Uni with burnt eggplant and yuzu granita. A surprising take on a New York classic is the chopped cheese, elevated with koji-aged wagyu and truffle. Seventy Seven Alley is designed to be an immersive "chef's studio," offering both an à la carte menu and an exclusive tasting experience at an eight-seat chef's counter. The interior design features low lighting, plush banquettes, and subtle Art Deco details, creating an intimate and focused environment. Reinforcing the gallery-inspired aesthetic, the dining room will showcase rotating art installations, with the initial exhibition featuring pieces created by Chase himself. The beverage program is crafted to mirror the "flavor architecture" of the food. Cocktails are designed by Chase to balance elements like smoke and acidity, with unique creations such as the "Fat Duck," made with bacon fat-washed Toki whiskey, and a "Salty Dog" martini infused with nori. The wine and sake list is also curated to complement the bold flavors of the menu.
