Massachusetts Campground Reservations Open

Massachusetts opened 2026 campground reservations with popular sites like Spectacle Island expected to fill quickly for summer weekends. The Department of Conservation and Recreation is highlighting both well-known campsites and hidden gems for camping under the stars.

- Reservations for the 2026 season can be made up to four months in advance of the arrival date. For campers, this means planning ahead; for example, a reservation for August 12th can be booked as early as April 12th. - The cost for a basic campsite differs significantly for state residents and non-residents. For example, at Nickerson State Park, a popular Cape Cod location, Massachusetts residents pay $22 per night, while non-residents pay $70, plus a $5 nightly surcharge. - Several campgrounds have specific surcharges that benefit their trust funds. Salisbury Beach reservations include a $3 surcharge for its fund, while Horseneck Beach has a $2 surcharge. - While most state parks with camping are included in the reservation opening, those interested in camping at Mount Greylock or on the Boston Harbor Islands should monitor the Department of Conservation and Recreation's (DCR) website for updates on their schedules. - Savoy Mountain State Forest's campground will have a shortened season in 2026, closing on July 31st to accommodate the construction of a new bathhouse. - Alternative camping options beyond traditional tents are available, including yurts and cabins. Yurts can be reserved at several locations, including Myles Standish State Forest and Clarksburg State Park, while cabins are available at Mohawk Trail State Forest and Savoy Mountain State Forest. - Campers should be aware of a strict policy prohibiting the transportation of personal firewood into or out of any DCR campground to prevent the spread of invasive species. Firewood must be purchased at the campground, and sales are by credit card only. - For the 2026 season, visitors are not permitted at campsites to ensure a focus on registered campers; however, guests are welcome to meet campers in the day-use areas of the parks.
