CASEL is offering a two-hour virtual workshop for K–12 educators on weaving social and emotional learning into regular academic lessons. (casel.org) The session, called “Integrating SEL with Academic Instruction,” is scheduled for Monday, May 19, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT, with a second offering on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. CASEL says the workshop is designed for classroom-based educators, administrators, and instructional coaches. (casel.org) CASEL says participants will get ready-to-use tools to spot opportunities for SEL inside academic content, strengthen existing lesson plans, and lead collaborative discussion with colleagues. Its workshop listing also says teachers will practice strategies that support collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. (casel.org, casel.regfox.com) Social and emotional learning, or SEL, is CASEL’s term for teaching skills such as managing emotions, building relationships, and making responsible decisions alongside academic content. CASEL says SEL is “an integral part of education and human development,” not a separate add-on. (casel.org) The group has been pushing schools to move SEL from stand-alone programs into everyday classroom practice. On its classroom implementation page, CASEL says SEL works best when students get consistent opportunities through explicit instruction, trusting relationships, and regular chances to express their views. (casel.org) That classroom focus fits CASEL’s broader school model. The organization says schoolwide implementation includes building adult capacity, promoting SEL for students, and using data for continuous improvement across settings from classrooms to hallways and playgrounds. (casel.org) CASEL has also built a larger professional-learning calendar around that approach. Its events page lists the May 19 and June 2 academic-integration workshops alongside other 2026 offerings, including sessions on the “SEL 3 Signature Practices” on May 26 and June 9. (casel.org, casel.org) For schools deciding whether to circulate the workshop, the pitch is practical: CASEL says educators will leave with lesson-level strategies they can use in existing instruction rather than a separate curriculum to build from scratch.
