Man escapes from Lewisham hospital twice in one week
A man named Daniel Boakye has escaped from Lewisham Hospital in London twice within a single week. His second escape occurred just days after he had initially absconded from custody at the same location. Local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the repeated security breaches.
- Daniel Boakye, 21, was serving a sentence of six years and five months after being convicted in July 2023 for a series of knifepoint robberies targeting 26 victims and stealing over £115,000 in cryptocurrency. - The first escape occurred on February 10th from West Middlesex University Hospital, while he was in the care of prison staff. He was recaptured the following day at an address in Thamesmead, where four other people were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. - After being charged with escaping lawful custody, Boakye was taken to University Hospital Lewisham on February 12th, where he remained for three days before fleeing from police custody on February 15th. - Boakye, who is also a drill rapper known as Dsavv, is considered violent, has gang connections, and was scheduled for deportation to Ghana. - The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards is now reviewing the incident to understand how a prisoner could escape from police custody twice in such a short period. - Following the second escape, a video surfaced allegedly showing Boakye on a London bus boasting about having evaded the police. - The escapes highlight concerns over prisoner management in London hospitals; the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has reportedly spent millions on security in recent years in response to a significant increase in assaults on staff. - Four days prior to the first escape, Boakye was also arrested on suspicion of a separate incident of aggravated burglary that occurred before he initially absconded.
