New $300B Oil Refinery for Brownsville, TX

President Trump announced a new $300 billion oil refinery to be built at the Port of Brownsville—the first new U.S. refinery in nearly 50 years.

The refinery, to be built by America First Refining, is planned to process 60 million barrels of American light shale oil annually. The location at the Port of Brownsville provides access to both domestic and international markets. The project has been in development for over 12 years. It's projected to improve the U.S. trade imbalance by $300 billion. Reliance Industries, based in India, is a partner in the project. They've signed a 20-year agreement to purchase the fuels produced there. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. The refinery is designed to be the "cleanest in the world" and will be hydrogen-powered. The Port of Brownsville is designated as an Economic Opportunity Zone. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs in South Texas.
