Fremont Mayor Urges Support for Local Businesses

Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan has publicly urged residents to support local restaurants and small businesses. In a recent social media post, Salwan stressed that community patronage is essential for the prosperity and survival of these establishments in the city.

- In his June 2025 State of the City address, Mayor Salwan highlighted that over $1 billion has been invested in new development projects in Downtown Fremont, including The Tolman, a mixed-use apartment complex with 5,700 square feet of commercial space. The city's downtown area hosted 325 events that attracted over 50,000 people. - The city, in partnership with the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, is hosting the 3rd Annual Fremont Restaurant Week from March 21-30, 2025, to celebrate the local culinary scene and encourage patronage at area eateries. The previous year's Restaurant Week was the largest in the city's history, drawing over 10,000 guests and increasing business for 95% of the participating restaurants. - Fremont is actively working to attract new businesses to its downtown core with several new establishments slated to open in 2025, including Palmetto Superfoods, an açaí bowl shop, and Pour Decisions, a craft coffee and beer taproom. This is part of a broader strategy to create a more vibrant, "strategically urban" community with more nightlife and entertainment. - To further support local entrepreneurs, Fremont will host a free two-day Small Business Digital Marketing Bootcamp on February 24 and 25, 2025, presented by the marketing firm Jives Media. This event is designed to provide small business owners with expert advice and practical tools for revenue growth. - The city is also moving forward with a new mixed-use project at the Fremont Hub, which has been named "Future Restaurant Row" and is scheduled to break ground in 2026. - Despite a challenging economic climate for the Bay Area, Fremont has seen a recent influx of new dining establishments in late 2025 and early 2026. These include the Nashville hot chicken chain Angry Chickz, as well as a variety of other cuisines such as Halal Chinese, Indian, and hot pot restaurants. - As a small business owner himself, Mayor Salwan has stated that one of his key priorities is to improve the quality of life in Fremont by enhancing commercial districts to attract more fine dining and retail options for residents. - During his first year as mayor in 2025, Salwan focused on strengthening the city's economy and ensuring that the local government remains responsive to the needs of business owners.
