Sónar+D Festival Opens Call for 2026 Entries
The Sónar+D festival in Barcelona has launched its open call for projects for its 2026 edition. The event invites artists, designers, and technologists to submit innovative works for its Digital Creativity Exhibition. Sónar+D is known for showcasing cutting-edge projects at the intersection of digital art, music, and technology.
- For its 2026 edition, Sónar+D will move to a new central Barcelona venue, the Llotja de Mar, and will also curate a series of digital art experiences at the Fira Gran Via for the first time. - The event is curated by Antònia Folguera, who has been with Sónar+D since 2015, and Cris Checa, who has led the exhibition program since 2023. - Sónar+D formally launched in 2013, evolving from the festival's "Technology Fair" which had been a component since the first Sónar festival in 1994. - The parallel Sónar music festival is a major draw, attracting 126,000 attendees during its 25th anniversary in 2018, with 46% of the audience coming from outside of Spain. - Previous Sónar+D programs have focused on forward-looking themes including the application of Artificial Intelligence in the arts, quantum computing, experience design, and the future of the internet. - Beyond the exhibition, the event's programming includes a wide range of formats such as conferences, workshops, masterclasses, and performative lectures. - In addition to the main Barcelona event, Sónar has hosted editions in numerous cities around the world, including Reykjavik, Hong Kong, Bogota, and Istanbul.
