Ratatan is getting a boxed Nintendo Switch 2 release, and pre-orders opened on April 21 ahead of the game’s July 16 launch. (gematsu.com) Publisher Game Source Entertainment and developer Ratata Arts said the physical edition for Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 is priced at $39.99 in North America and £39.99 in Europe. The digital standard edition is listed at $34.99, with a digital deluxe edition at $39.99. (nintendolife.com) Ratata Arts also said the Switch 2 copy is “not using a Game Key Card,” meaning the full game is stored on the cartridge rather than requiring the card to unlock a download. That detail appeared in the project’s BackerKit update and was repeated in coverage of the pre-order announcement. (ratatan.backerkit.com, nintendolife.com) The boxed release lands weeks after Ratata Arts formally dropped the original Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions. In an April 2026 backer update, the studio said projected sales on “legacy hardware” would not cover the licensing fees needed to ship those versions. (nintendoeverything.com) The same update said the team narrowed the platform list to make the “highest possible quality game” and added Switch 2 during development. That leaves Ratatan scheduled for Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 physically and digitally, with digital releases also planned for Xbox Series X|S and PC. (nintendolife.com, nettosgameroom.com) Ratatan is a rhythm roguelike action game: players issue commands to the beat while a side-scrolling army fights on screen. The Steam store page says it supports online co-op for up to four players and battles with more than 100 characters at once. (store.steampowered.com) The project has been marketed as a follow-up for fans of Patapon, the drum-command strategy series from Sony’s PlayStation Portable era. Ratata Arts’ official site describes Ratatan as a mix of rhythm play, side-scroller action, and multiplayer co-op. (ratatan-game.com) Ratatan already spent months in public testing on PC. Game Source Entertainment announced a Steam Early Access launch on September 18, 2025, giving the team a live build to refine before the console release now set for July 16, 2026. (gamespress.com) For Switch 2 collectors, the immediate point is simple: Ratatan moved off the original Switch, stayed on Nintendo’s newer hardware, and will ship there in a cartridge-based retail edition this summer.
