The Longest Tale RPG Demo Available
DevNullProd released "The Longest Tale" demo during Steam Next Fest—a mythic action RPG where players explore haunted forests and uncover legends. The demo lets players experience the game's narrative-focused approach to the action RPG genre with atmospheric exploration elements.
Inspired by the classic collection of Middle Eastern folk tales, *One Thousand and One Nights*, "The Longest Tale" is set in the fractured lands of the Shattered Kingdoms. The narrative unfolds through the journeys of four distinct heroes, whose individual quests gradually reveal parts of a larger, ancient legend. The game's structure is designed around these four interwoven hero quests. Players will unlock each character as the story progresses, experiencing their unique motivations and abilities. Character backstories range from a hero seeking vengeance to another drawn to a cursed tower. Player choices are designed to have a significant impact on the game world. Decisions made can alter alliances with different factions, physically transform locations, and open or conceal narrative paths, a feature designed to encourage replayability. The developer, Dev Null Productions, is an indie studio focused on fusing detailed world design with strong storytelling. Their team is composed of creatives and developers with experience from major studios who aim to create intricate fantasy adventures. Gameplay extends beyond narrative choices to include strategic combat that emphasizes timing and positioning over brute force. Players will also encounter "reality-bending" arcane puzzles, requiring the deciphering of cryptic glyphs to solve. The game world is dotted with remnants of lost civilizations, including ruined temples and towering fortresses for players to explore. Environments will range from sun-scorched deserts to cavernous depths and mist-shrouded mountains. Following the demo released for Steam Next Fest, the full version of "The Longest Tale" is planned for release in May 2026.
