The Shanghai International Circuit has undergone modifications to accommodate modern F1 cars, including precision milling and shot peening. New spectator stands have also been added. The weekend schedule is unique due to the Sprint format. There is only one free practice session before sprint qualifying. This puts extra pressure on teams to quickly find the optimal setup. The Sprint format includes a qualifying session on Friday to set the grid for Saturday's sprint race. The sprint race is approximately 100km, about one-third of a typical Grand Prix distance, and doesn't require mandatory pit stops. Points are awarded to the top eight finishers. Zhou Guanyu, now a reserve driver for Cadillac, will be present at the event in his hometown. In 2024, Zhou became the first Chinese driver to compete in his home Grand Prix.
