TECNO Unveils AI-Powered Phones at MWC

TECNO's latest push into AI-powered imaging pairs flagship Sony sensor hardware with a dedicated AI computing architecture. This allows for features like "Super-Zoom FlashSnap," designed to capture high-speed action without shutter lag, and "AI Auto Zoom" for intelligent subject framing. The reveal is part of a broader industry trend at MWC 2026, with many manufacturers focusing on on-device AI to navigate a challenging memory chip market. The CAMON 50 series is positioned as a "Creative AI Hub," incorporating tools beyond just photography. Features include an AI Art Gallery for transforming photos and a "One-Tap FlashMemo" for organizing information. This is all integrated with an upgraded Ella AI assistant running on the new HiOS 16 operating system. This launch is a key part of parent company Transsion Holdings' strategy to move into higher-end devices and increase R&D spending. Known as the "King of Africa," Transsion holds over 40% of the smartphone market share on the continent and is the fourth-largest vendor globally. The company is diversifying beyond its traditional focus on ultra-budget phones to improve profit margins squeezed by component costs. The new phone is just one piece of a larger AI-centric ecosystem TECNO is showcasing. This includes the upgraded OneLeap platform for improved data transfer and task management between TECNO devices like laptops, tablets, and smart wearables. The company is also highlighting AI applications in wellness, including non-contact facial scans for health monitoring. In a move to associate with high-performance design, TECNO is also using MWC to announce a strategic partnership with Tonino Lamborghini. The collaboration will produce a co-created product line, including a gaming mini-PC and a limited edition POVA smartphone.
