Apple Maps to Integrate Live Formula 1 Race Data

Apple is unveiling a plan to integrate real-time Formula 1 data directly into Apple Maps. The feature will provide users with live race telemetry, driver stats, and immersive circuit views. This move deepens the trend of layering live, event-driven data onto mapping platforms to boost engagement.

This integration is part of a larger five-year partnership between Apple and Formula 1, which also grants Apple TV exclusive F1 streaming rights in the United States. The collaboration aims to embed the sport across Apple's ecosystem, including Apple News, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+. The Maps feature debuted with a detailed guide to the Albert Park circuit in Australia for the 2026 season. For attendees, the map includes walking directions to grandstands, entrance gates, restrooms, and merchandise stands. For those at home, it offers 3D models of the pit building, turn numbers, and other track details. This move is part of Apple's broader push into sports, which includes the 2024 launch of the free Apple Sports app for iPhone. That app provides real-time scores, stats, and play-by-play details for various leagues, including the NBA, NHL, and Premier League, and now integrates with the Apple TV app to direct users to live games. Formula 1 has been actively expanding its digital presence through various tech partnerships. It utilizes Amazon Web Services (AWS) to train deep learning models on over 65 years of historical race data, providing fans with race predictions and strategic insights. Another multi-year partnership with software developer Globant aims to enhance the digital experiences for both fans and F1 teams. Other tech companies are also deeply embedded in F1's operations. T-Mobile serves as a 5G innovation partner, using its network for 5G-powered broadcast cameras and drones at U.S. races. Meanwhile, Oracle has extended its title partnership with Red Bull Racing to use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AI for everything from race strategy to developing the team's new hybrid power unit for the 2026 season.
