West End's 'Comedy About Spies' Returns
Mischief Theatre’s “The Comedy About Spies” is returning to the West End this summer Mischief's THE COMEDY ABOUT SPIES Will Return to the West End This Summer, promising the troupe’s signature slapstick and inventive storytelling.
The play, written by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, is set in 1960s London and involves a stolen top-secret file that triggers a chaotic chase between the CIA and KGB. Their pursuit unfolds at the Piccadilly Hotel, where a young couple, a James Bond hopeful, and a secret shopper get caught in the mayhem. Mischief Theatre was founded in 2008 by students from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Founding members include Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields. The company initially performed improvised comedy before transitioning to scripted theatrical productions in 2012. "The Comedy About Spies" premiered in April 2025 at the Noël Coward Theatre, running for a limited season until September. The production was filmed live in August 2025 for a future release. Matt DiCarlo directs the play. The production won Best New Play at the 2026 WhatsOnStage Awards and is nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play. The show is returning for a limited 8-week run at the Adelphi Theatre, starting August 1 and running through September 26. Tickets go on sale March 16, 2026.
