Tur Opens in San Francisco

The acclaimed owners of Thai hit Khao Tiew are opening Tur, a new brunch and breakfast spot in San Francisco. This expansion showcases their growing influence in the SF food scene beyond their successful Thai restaurant. The new concept represents a departure from their Asian cuisine roots into American breakfast fare.

Owners Wipada Rattanapun and Arkaranit Dusitnitsakul are doubling down on the West Portal neighborhood. Their new venture, Tur, is located at 1 West Portal Ave., just down the street from their acclaimed Thai restaurant, Khao Tiew. The space was formerly occupied by the breakfast spot Squat and Gobble, which closed in January 2026 after 32 years in business. Khao Tiew, which opened in 2024, quickly gained recognition, with the Chronicle's Cesar Hernandez naming it the "best new Thai restaurant" of that year. The restaurant often has hours-long waits for popular dishes like beef tallow fried rice and fried papaya salad. It began as a popup at the Stonestown farmers market before moving to its permanent location. While the new restaurant focuses on brunch, it will not be standard American fare, but rather breakfast with influences from across Asia. Co-owner Wipada Rattanapun mentioned that potential dishes include Thai-style congee and duck confit, aiming for homestyle dishes they would make for friends and family. The kitchen at Tur will be led by Chef Varunthorn Ratanakachain. Ratanakachain's previous experience includes working at Darla Café in Saratoga, another Asian-influenced brunch spot. Tur is expected to open in April 2026.
