KuCoin Named a Top Exchange for New Listings
Crypto exchange KuCoin was ranked among the top three exchanges for total token listings in a 2025 report from Animoca Brands Research. The ranking, published Feb. 28, highlights the exchange's continued dominance in the primary market for new digital assets.
While the Animoca Brands Research report highlighted a 31% year-over-year increase in KuCoin's token listings in 2025, the broader market is undergoing a significant shift. Industry analysis indicates that the era of competing on listing volume alone is ending, with a greater focus now placed on the quality of projects, their liquidity, and overall market structure. KuCoin's strategy appears to align with this trend by maintaining a strong presence across a wide spectrum of project valuations, from $30 million to over $500 million. This approach suggests an effort to balance emerging, high-growth potential assets with more established, higher-capitalization tokens. The report noted that top-tier exchanges are becoming increasingly selective, accounting for only about 25% of listings in the heavyweight $500M+ category. The market is also seeing a rotation of liquidity towards more established projects. First-day trading volumes for micro-cap tokens (under $30M) have seen a contraction compared to 2024. Conversely, projects valued above $100M experienced first-day trading volumes between 1.44 and 1.78 times higher than the previous year's average, with the $100M-$500M segment showing the fastest growth in 30-day volume. Beyond traditional cryptocurrencies, KuCoin is also expanding its footprint in the real-world asset (RWA) sector. The exchange ranked fifth globally in tokenized gold trading volume, signaling a move to diversify its offerings and cater to investors seeking on-chain exposure to traditional defensive assets. This diversification is a key theme for 2025 as exchanges aim to become more comprehensive financial hubs. Historically, KuCoin has positioned itself as "The People's Exchange," with a strategy of listing a wide variety of altcoins to attract traders looking for emerging gems. This approach differs from more conservative exchanges like Coinbase, which has a more stringent and limited selection of assets. KuCoin's process involves a thorough review of a project's whitepaper, tokenomics, security audits, and legal compliance before a token is approved for listing. While known for its broad selection, KuCoin's focus on primary listings in a more selective market suggests a maturing strategy. The exchange's ability to maintain momentum in bringing new, vetted projects to market is a key indicator of its strong deal flow and internal screening capabilities in the evolving digital asset landscape.
