TECNO Unveils AI-Powered Phones at MWC
TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will feature the new AI-driven phones alongside a broader AI product ecosystem.
The upcoming CAMON 50 series builds on a long history of camera-focused smartphones from TECNO. The first CAMON, the C8 launched in 2015, featured a 5MP front camera, which was a significant feature for its time in the African market. Over the years, the series has seen a rapid evolution in camera technology, with subsequent models introducing higher megapixel counts, dual and triple camera setups, and advanced features like OIS gimbal stabilization and periscope telephoto lenses. At the core of TECNO's new devices is its AI assistant, Ella. Initially a voice assistant, Ella has evolved with GPT and Gemini integration to offer a suite of AI-powered features. These include real-time call translation in over 70 languages, AI-powered photo editing with "AI Eraser 2.0," and content creation tools. The new CAMON 50 series will further integrate Ella as a comprehensive "Creative AI Hub." The launch at MWC 2026 also marks a strategic partnership with Italian luxury brand Tonino Lamborghini. This collaboration will see the release of co-created products, including a Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS gaming mini-PC and a limited edition POVA Metal smartphone. This move signals TECNO's ambition to push into more premium segments. TECNO's broader AI ecosystem extends beyond smartphones. The company will also showcase its evolving MEGABOOK laptop portfolio, AI-enhanced smart wearables, and an upgraded cross-device interconnection solution called OneLeap. Previous announcements have included AI Glasses with augmented reality capabilities and smartwatches, demonstrating a commitment to a connected device ecosystem. This focus on AI and an expanding product ecosystem is part of TECNO's "glocal" strategy, which has been central to its success in emerging markets. The company has a significant market share in Africa and has expanded its presence to over 70 countries by tailoring its products to local needs, such as including support for the Amharic keyboard in Ethiopia. The CAMON 50 series is set to feature flagship Sony camera hardware paired with a dedicated AI computing architecture. This will enable features like "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for high-speed action shots with no shutter lag and "AI Auto Zoom" for intelligent subject framing. This combination of hardware and AI is aimed at making professional-grade photography more accessible.
