Microsoft pushes deeper into agentic AI
Microsoft launched Copilot Cowork, powered by Anthropic’s Claude, for automating workflows across Microsoft 365 apps.
Copilot Cowork automates tasks across Microsoft 365 apps, leveraging Work IQ to understand user context and habits. It moves beyond simple question answering to executing complex, multi-step workflows. Microsoft is positioning Copilot Cowork as a "doer" rather than just a "drafter," allowing users to delegate work and stay informed of progress. It aims to handle tasks that span minutes or hours, coordinating actions across multiple apps. Copilot Cowork is currently in a limited research preview, with broader availability planned through the Frontier program in late March 2026. Microsoft is also introducing the Microsoft 365 E7 suite, which includes Copilot, Agent 365, and enhanced security features, for $99 per user per month, available May 1, 2026. The tool integrates Anthropic's Claude Cowork technology into Microsoft 365 Copilot, giving users access to advanced reasoning and multi-step capabilities. This multi-model approach allows Copilot to choose the right model for the task, regardless of the provider. By combining Claude's agentic model with Microsoft's enterprise infrastructure, Copilot Cowork delivers a managed, enterprise-grade experience with robust controls. It operates within Microsoft 365's existing security and governance framework, ensuring that identity controls, permissions, and compliance policies are automatically applied.
