RAK Art Festival Concludes

The 14th Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival wrapped up with over 100 artists from 6+ countries participating under the "Civilizations" theme. - The festival is held at the Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village, the last intact Emirati pearling village in the UAE, which is on UNESCO's tentative list of World Heritage Sites. - This 14th edition introduced the inaugural Ras Al Khaimah Contemporary Art Biennale, with Alfio Tommasini curating the main "Civilizations" exhibition. - The event is organized by the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research and was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. - Since its inception in 2013 as a three-day exhibition with 30 local artists, the festival has grown into a month-long event, which in 2024 attracted 45,000 visitors. - The festival program was structured with thematic weekends, including a "Family and Pet Friendly Weekend," "Around the World," and a "Cultural Weekend." - A new dining experience called "The Hidden Table" was introduced, combining gastronomy and art to tell cultural stories. - Beyond the main exhibition, the festival included a diverse program of interactive workshops, live performances, film screenings, and guided heritage tours. - The "Civilizations" theme explored how artistic expression has flourished across societies, from the ancient Silk Road routes that once connected Ras Al Khaimah to the modern world.
