Blackmagic Design has released the public beta of DaVinci Resolve 21, adding new artificial intelligence tools, new motion-graphics effects, and a photo-editing page to its editing app. (blackmagicdesign.com) The company announced the update at National Association of Broadcasters Show 2026 in Las Vegas on Monday, April 13, 2026, and said the beta is available now. Blackmagic said Resolve 21 adds “hundreds of new features,” including IntelliSearch for content search, CineFocus for focal-point adjustment, and facial-refinement tools. (blackmagicdesign.com) DaVinci Resolve is an all-in-one post-production app: video editing, color correction, visual effects, motion graphics, and audio finishing live in one program. Blackmagic sells a free version and a Studio version priced at $295. (blackmagicdesign.com) The new Photo page pushes that “one app” model further by bringing Resolve’s color tools to still images. Blackmagic said users can import photos, organize albums, crop at source resolution, and use node-based grading tools that were previously built around video workflows. (blackmagicdesign.com) That matters for editors who cut event videos, branded spots, and social clips in the same jobs where they also handle thumbnails, still selects, and sponsor deliverables. Resolve has been moving in that direction for a year: DaVinci Resolve 20, announced on April 4, 2025, added more than 100 features, including artificial intelligence tools for script-based editing, animated subtitles, multicamera switching, and audio mixing. (blackmagicdesign.com) Motion-graphics work also gets a bigger toolkit in Resolve 21. Blackmagic said the Krokodove toolset adds more than 70 new graphics to Fusion, the compositing page used for titles, effects, and animated elements. (blackmagicdesign.com) Audio cleanup and delivery are part of the update too. Blackmagic said Fairlight, the audio page inside Resolve, now adds folder tracks to simplify track management in larger projects. (blackmagicdesign.com) Blackmagic also tied the release to camera workflows. The company said the Photo page supports tethered capture from Sony and Canon cameras, letting users bring images directly into Resolve during a shoot. (blackmagicdesign.com) The release keeps Blackmagic’s pitch intact: one free-to-start editor for cutting, color, graphics, sound, and now photos, with the public beta available as NAB 2026 opens.
